Baby Refuses Bottle

Many breastfeeding parents also choose to offer bottles to their babies.

Either occasionally alongside breastfeeding or because you may want to move to combination feeding or to stop breastfeeding altogether before your babies turn one. And I am here to support you, however you want to feed your baby.

One may think it is as straightforward as just offering the baby a bottle and them drinking it, but it turns out that this often isn’t the case.

HAVE YOU…

  • got a cupboard full of every bottle and cup on the market, yet none of them have worked?

  • got somewhere you want or need to be without your baby and you don’t know how you are going to manage it?

  • noticed that ‘baby won’t take a bottle’ is your most frequently searched term on google?

  • noticed that there doesn’t seem to be one magic trick that works for all babies and now are stuck with what to try next?

If any of these resonate with you then you are in the right place.

My online course: bottle refusal in breastfed babies is the course for you.

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a feeding and swallowing speech therapist, I have over 20 years experience supporting babies and their families with feeding challenges. I am uniquely positioned to provide you with all the tips to help your baby take a bottle and also help you with how to navigate separating from them even if they don’t!

I have implemented your suggestions from your bottle refusal course and my little one just took nearly 100ml from a bottle. Thank you so much!
My goal was to have my EBF 8 month to take a bottle full time to suit my return to work. After a week of perseverance and help from my mum he is now on a bottle and no longer BF. The course was extremely helpful with different tricks to try, thank you so much.

I am one of those with a cupboard full of every different bottle but going with the teat you suggested helped.

What can you expect in the course?

The course is aimed at parents of infants who are exclusively breastfed and whom you would like to take a bottle but they are refusing. It is suitable for babies from birth to 12 months. Whether you want your baby to occasionally take a bottle or take regular bottles this course is for you.

The course contains a series of short videos which you can watch in whatever order you’d like in your own time. All the videos are captioned for customers with hearing impairments/deafness or for those who may choose to watch with sound off. There are over 20 videos in total. Alongside videos there is written content and some downloadable information/resources.

In the course you will learn:

  • To understand about the differences between bottle and breastfeeding and why your baby may be refusing to drink from a bottle

  • How to choose a bottle and which milk to offer

  • Risks of bottle feeding a breastfed baby and how to reduce those

  • Lots of practical tips to help your bottle refusing baby accept the bottle

  • How and when to try cup drinking instead and what cups to choose

  • What to do when you need to leave your baby but they won’t take a bottle

  • If and how you can stop breastfeeding if your baby won’t drink any other milk

Success story: Lizzie and Leo

I knew during my pregnancy that I wanted to try and give breastfeeding a go, due to all the health benefits for not only Leo but also me. I was however quite relaxed that if it didn’t go as planned that I’d be happy giving him formula. I’ve been very lucky in my breastfeeding journey that Leo latched on well at the beginning and I have a good supply. He only lost 2% of his birth weight and has been on the 91st centile ever since birth. I never had any pain, only a little bit of soreness but that quickly went and touch wood (!!)

I just wanted to say thank you again so much. I did your course on bottle refusal last week. I’m so pleased to say that my 9 month old daughter will happily drink milk from it. We’d previously tried all sorts of bottles and cups with very little success so I just wanted to say thank you so much for your help and advice.
Omg I tried a bottle again like normal with my 4m old (have been battling with her refusing a bottle for weeks if not months) sat her up and she blooming took it actually drank the milk not just chewed the teat like normal! I’m crying. I feel so proud. Thank you so much!
I purchased your bottle refusal course last week, as I wanted to introduce a bottle, so that I can go out without being on a time frame to get back and feed my 4.5mo!
Every time I’ve tried before, we had no luck and our LO was just getting really frustrated.

Day 1 of putting your tips and techniques into practice and he’s taking it quite happily.
